WEC Delivers Well-Engineered Solution to Mining Client

water & sewage treatment

WEC Projects (WEC) recently successfully commissioned a biological trickle filter plant for the treatment of sewage at the Elandsfontein Mine in the Western Cape. WEC’s scope included the design, supply and installation of the entire packaged plant which consisted of inlet works with an inline macerator and transfer pump system (including a septic tank), recycle/trickle filter feed system, trickle filter, clarification and disinfection system.

One of the unique characteristics of this particular project is that the plant is situated very close to the day-to-day operations of the mine and it was therefore important that WEC selects a technology that limited offensive odours whilst complying with the strict effluent discharge requirements stipulated by the client. The EPC contractor also needed to reduce the installation time on site to the bare minimum and therefore designed the plant in such a manner that it could be easily transported to site, offloaded, placed into position, installed and commissioned immediately. WEC was also able to reduce the amount of civil works required as a result.

WEC, an expert supplier of packaged plants has installed hundreds of well-engineered and durable treatment systems for mining clients over the last decade and are fully versed with the requirements mining clients have in terms of health and safety and mechanical and electrical specification compliance. With the company firmly focused on the mining industry in Africa we expect to see many more of WEC’s treatment plants deployed in this area, providing much-needed infrastructure for potable water treatment, process water treatment and sewage treatment.
