Lack of basic infrastructure for water and power; unreliable service delivery, lack of maintenance or expansion of aging systems; and communities with limited access to grid supply pose difficulties when designing solutions for water and wastewater treatment. While no single requirement is exactly the same, sometimes a one-size-fits-all approach, while still maintaining a level of design flexibility, is needed to ensure that communities and industry are able to receive basic services. This is where the package solution offers distinct benefits.
What are Package Plants?
At its basic level, a package plant is an off-the-shelf, decentralised solution for water and wastewater treatment that bypasses the need for massive investment in piping, pumping, reservoir and instrumentation infrastructure.
Package Plant Design
Integrating a modular design, it can be transported easily to site and assembled (usually in a standard shipping container) either as a standalone solution or as part of an expansion of existing infrastructure. Its size and throughput can also vary from small scale systems capable of servicing a few hundred users to larger systems designed to meet the needs of thousands of users.

Water Treatment Package Plants
A package solution for water treatment up to potable standards can be achieved easily using local water resources such as boreholes, rivers and dams, and salt water sources such as marshes and oceans. Sewage Treatment Package Plants
Ensuring effective sanitation for communities and industry in Africa is of paramount importance if the continent is to grow its economies. At the same time, solutions need to be cognisant of the need to ensure that resources such as water and energy are preserved through reclamation and re-use and that effluent and solid waste are kept to a minimum and comply with local environmental standards.

Features
- They comprise of a mild steel welded tank, suitably stiffened for burying or standing at ground level and painted with an epoxy resin for corrosion protection. Ancillary equipment is detailed further on

Features
- These units are self-contained treatment plants that will treat most domestic wastewater and organic effluent. The capital cost, land usage requirements and erection time of the Model R systems are greatly reduced compared to a conventional treatment plant.
- The Model R plant offered is designed to run as an extended aeration activated sludge system. It can be located above or below ground to suit gravity flow or other site conditions. The plant retaining structures can be constructed from mild steel, concrete or glass to steel fused tanks
- The Model R consists of two concentric circular steel walls. The inner tank is the clarifier whilst the space between the outer wall and the clarifier is the annular aeration basin. The aeration basin is sized using known parameters for retention and contact time. A fine bubble diffused air system provides oxygen required for microbial growth
