The Water Research Commission along with its partners have been fostering the adoption of innovative, next generation sanitation technologies to address pressing sanitation challenges in South Africa. Through the SASTEP programme, the WRC has matched several innovative inbound technologies with capable commercial partners – entrepreneurs, SMMEs and manufacturers within the sanitation industry - who possess requisite skills to localise and manufacture these products at scale. This is why we matched and facilitated the licensing of the NEWgenerator™ to WEC Projects.

WEC were engaged to provide wastewater treatment solutions on our hospital projects in Ghana. Their trickle filter solutions provided the level of treatment required to achieve the stringent effluent limits we had to meet, with a simple to operate and easy to maintain plant. These were ideally suited to the remote regions in which our projects were constructed. Ashly, Gareth and the rest of the team were a pleasure to work with and overcame the engineering and logistical challenges we faced.

We worked closely with WEC Projects on-site to develop a sustainable solution. WEC Projects had previously installed a sewage treatment plant at the neighbouring Letseng Mine and it was that facility that encouraged us to approach them. What is critical for us, is to complete the civil works and installation and commissioning of the plant during the winter season with the harsh climate posing many challenges.

Multotec worked together with WEC on a project in Mali. It can be difficult to work in remote areas, but WEC stepped up to the challenge and was always ready with a solution. We will continue working with WEC to provide water solutions in Africa.
