Capacity
- 120 m3/d trickle filter plants for Kumawu and Fomena District Hospitals
- 16 m3/d trickle filter plant for Takoradi Residential Development
Requirement
Domestic sewage from two Ghanaian hospitals and one residential development required treatment to meet the wastewater discharge limits set by the Ghana EPA.
Top Challenges
Aesthetics
To preserve the aesthetic appearance and colour scheme of the apartment development, the trickle filter plant was designed to blend into its surroundings.
Scalability
The client needed a solution that can easily be scaled up if the requirements of the hospitals or the residential area change.
Variable water quality
The plants installed at the hospitals were required to treat water that contained biological medical waste adding to the complexity of the plant design
The Result
The containerised trickle filter plants minimised site installation time, allow for future capacity expansions and can treat the varied water quality, whilst maintaining an appealing appearance.
How WEC Added Value
The trickle filter plants treat wastewater from the residential development and healthcare facilities to a standard acceptable for safe discharge into the environment.
Modular
Scalability
A modular trickle filter plant design was proposed by WEC Water to provide the client the scalability they needed.
Low
Maintenance
The small number of moving parts in these plants ensures low maintenance requirements and downtime, resulting in a long plant lifespan.
Environmental
Discharge
WEC Water designed the plants to treat the variable wastewater to the required specification to ensure compliance with regulations and protect natural resources.
From The Client
“WEC Water was engaged to provide wastewater treatment solutions to our hospital and residential development projects in Ghana. Their trickle filter plant provided the level of treatment required to achieve the discharge limits we had to meet, with a simple to operate and easy to maintain solution. These plants are well suited for the remote regions of our projects Ashly, Gareth and the rest of the WEC Water team were a pleasure to work with and overcame the engineering and logistical challenges we faced.”
